Mixed Reality at Your Fingertips
BMBF funding measure on interactive technologies for health and quality of life as part of the funding priority "Interactive systems in virtual and real spaces - innovative technologies for the digital society".
With Mixed Reality, abbreviated MR, virtual reality can not only be seen, but also felt and grasped. However, current MR applications cannot make external influences perceptible haptically. If they could simulate touch or weight, for example, immersion in the virtual world would be even more real for people. Such flexible MR systems could, for example, make new forms of motion learning possible.
Goals and Approach
The solution is a new haptics component that simulates force effects in MR. Electromyostimulation is used: electrodes attached to the body activate the muscles by means of electrical stimuli. The goal of the researchers at interaktionsKRAFT is to link the various perceptual components in the interaction with each other - for the best possible immersion through the simultaneous visual, acoustic and haptic experience. The new interaction technologies and strategies will be tested and further developed in various application scenarios as part of the research work.
Innovations and Perspectives
The perception of force application in MR can significantly expand the field of application of interactive technologies. Whether sports or movement therapy - the possibilities are manifold.
